Lyrics
What am I looking at
Your penciled writing on this scrap of paper
Says, “gone to the store, won’t be long, I love you, see you later”
Now I wish I could change time with an eraser
What am I looking at now that it’s so much later
What am I looking at
When I can’t see what’s right before my eyes
I’m stranded in the past, and I might stay there too long
It’s just my nature
If I leave you there will I become a traitor
Can’t I keep you with me all these years later
If you knew you wouldn’t be returning
I can guess what I’d be reading now right here
This yellowed note would say it’s alright to miss me
But put away this silly souvenir
What are you looking at
Have you never seen a man in pain before
She was gone before her time, wish I believed that she was someplace greater
Or that leaving would somehow liberate her
She left too early, and I’ll still be here later
